TX802 Squadron News

On September 18, 2009 the first activity of the school year, known as the Squadron Leadership Academy, took place at C.E. King Middle School.

The evening started off great, all cadets got their blues uniform inspected by Lt. Villeda, and afterwards took their gear and headed up to their barracks. As soon as all the females and males placed their things in their respected areas the weekend kicked off in full force. All line and support staff then separated from one another into groups where they could learn their individual jobs and be assisted by senior staff and senior members.

Line staff began by forming up into one flight and all cadets one by one were chosen or volunteered to go in front of the flight and take the spot as Flight Sergeant. Each cadet then taught the flight one basic drill movement as if they were Cadet Basics while Col. Peace was there to assist and answer questions. They got this opportunity so when it came time for them to be the Flight Sergeant they would know the proper way to teach basic drill.

While line staff was working on drill, support staff was behind the scenes learning everything about their jobs. Logistics was taught how to properly issue out uniform items, so cadets could look their best when at activities and when representing Sheldon Cadet Squadron. Administration had a class on forms, sign in/out procedures, and the filing system with Capt. Hicks. And while all this is going on the Public Affair cadets were busy learning how to take the "perfect picture" and familiarizing themselves with being aware of their subjects they plan to write about with Sgt. Castro.
